Pine Mountain Georgia, 37 miles from Columbus Georgia, is the location of one of Georgia's most treasured destinations, Callaway Gardens Resort, a 14,000 acre site developed to promote an appreciation of nature. A special attraction of the gardens is the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center where thousands of butterflies and hummingbirds fly freely.

The gardens were built on land depleted by cotton farming. Also included on this site are hiking trails, biking paths, winding roads, 13 lakes, a 63 hole championship golf course and a golf club. In fair weather, Soaring Eagle Glider Rides provides views of the garden from a glider.

Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park contains President Roosevelt's favorite picnic spot, a bell shaped swimming pool, camping spots and the 23-mile Pine Mountain Trail. Roosevelt Riding Stables features wagon rides, horseback rides and overnight excursions along the trails of Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park.

Other Pine Mountain attractions include Liechty's Mill Farm featuring gristmills, a covered bridge, pony and horseback rides, swimming, water slides and a miniature golf course. Llewellin's Point Hunting Preserve features quail, pheasant and chukar hunting.

Wild Animal Safari is a 500-acre exotic animal park featuring bison, giraffes, rhinos and more.
