Cordele Georgia is the Watermelon Capital of the World because they grow the largest luscious watermelons. The Watermelon Days Festival celebrates the watermelon harvest and summer in the South.

Festival activities include the annual Watermelon Days Parade, Watermelon Festival Dance, the Junior Watermelon Entry Contest, the Watermelon Chunking Contest, the Big Melon & Adult Seed Spitting Contest, Singing at the Suawnee and much more. A recent addition is a Watermelon Days special run of the Sam Shortline train excursion.
